What Are The Early Signs of Pregnancy?

Do you think there is a chance that you are pregnant? While a pregnancy test is the best way to find out, there are early symptoms that you may be feeling including nausea, tenderness in the breasts or fatigue. Learn more about early signs of pregnancy  here.

One of the most common early pregnancy symptoms is unexplained exhaustion. It may be hard for you to go through your daily routine when all you feel like doing is sleeping. However, it is important to avoid caffeine, no matter how tired you feel. Too much caffeine is not good for a pregnant woman’s body. Instead, get a good night’s sleep and rest when you can.

Disgust By Certain Foods

You may feel pregnant if just looking or smelling certain foods makes you gag or vomit. Unfortunately, this is something that may last throughout the beginning of your pregnancy or for the whole duration of it. It is believed the increase in the beta-hCG hormone is what causes this symptom. The only thing you can really do is try to stay away from foods that make you feel like this.

Smell Sensitivity

Smells that you have always hated (such as smoke) and smells you once loved (such as perfume) suddenly make you feel nauseous. This is a huge sign of pregnancy. Increased hormone levels are the cause of this feeling. Other than avoiding these smells, there is really not much you can do about it.

Vomiting and/or Nausea

Though nausea or vomiting could be caused by a number of things, like a stomach bug, it is the most common early pregnancy symptoms, and lasts for the first few months. But rest assured, if you are feeling this way and you are pregnant, things will get better for you around your third or fourth month of pregnancy. Also, nausea and vomiting are good signs; it usually indicates that your beta-HCG hormones are rising, meaning you are progressing along well.

Tenderness & Swelling of the Breasts

Do your breasts feel tender or have they swollen up? If so, there is a good chance that you may be pregnant. Luckily, there is something you can do to relieve some of the pain. Wear a bra that offers you more support, such as a sports bra.

Urinating Frequently

Do you feel like you spend more time in the bathroom urinating than you do anywhere else? If you do, pregnancy may be to blame. When a woman is in the early stages of pregnancy, her uterus grows, which increases the urge to urinate. Sadly, there is not much you can do about this problem, but, using the bathroom right before bed may prevent you from having to get up all the time to use the bathroom throughout the night.

Shortness of Breath

This is not only an early symptom of pregnancy, but it is one that can occur throughout the whole nine months. Your embryo is growing during your pregnancy and this requires more oxygen for your body. This actually may get worse when you get further into your pregnancy. If you feel this way, speak to your doctor to be sure pregnancy is the cause.

Changes to Your Body

Your body may be telling you are pregnant and you may not even know it. For instance, your vagina may change in color. A doctor can perform a pelvic exam to be sure pregnancy is causing these changes.

As you can see, there are many signs of early pregnancy. If you are experience one or more of these symptoms, visit a doctor right away. It is possible that these are symptoms for other conditions.  However, if you are sexually active and don’t use birth control, missing your period is the best early sign of pregnancy.  And if you are pregnant, it is important to get the proper care as soon as possible.
